Wat Mongkolratanaram Thai Temple

We recently headed over to the Charity Sunday Market at the Wat Mongkolratanaram Thai Temple and the day could not have been better as we had perfect Florida weather.  This was our first visit to this market and let me tell you this place is a gem!

First, a little info on the temple.  The temple was established in 1981 and is a residence for monks whom teach and practice Buddhism.  The temple itself is beautiful and represents the Thai- applied Ayudhaya architecture.   The monks do have a schedule for chanting and meditation which is open to the public.  I found this to be such a neat experience.  I would encourage everyone to participate, but make sure to read the signs that have the general rules for entering the temples.  I know this seems odd for me to have to highlight, but I can’t tell you how many people I saw entering the temple with their shoes on and/or with shorts.  It is a religious house so please respect their requests.  Overall, the area has a very nice, peaceful vibe, and I will plan accordingly to attend a meditation session.

Pork Noodle Soup

Pork Noodle Soup

The food is AMAZING.  The sights and smells will transport you to Thailand!  Plan on an early lunch as some of the booths run out of food by noon!  We had the "Guiteow" or Beef or pork noodle soup and it was delicious, everything was super fresh and fragrant.  Unfortunately, we got there a little late and most of the booths had run out of food but I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other dishes.  Some of the popular dishes they have are papaya salad, phat thai, grilled chicken and pork, and a variety of desserts and thai coffee and tea.  They also have a farmer’s market area where you can purchase fruits, vegetables, plants, and herbs.  I picked up some lemon grass and vegetables and made a delicious chicken stir fry for dinner that evening.

We really enjoyed our time there, it was a really great way to get a taste of Thai culture and I can’t wait to go back!
